Applied Clinical Codes

Clinical Codes for Health Records Analysis and Application Development

Developing applications that collect or analyse patient data need to use industry standard clinical codes. Medical Intelligency produces accurate and comprehensive clinical code sets for any EHR or PHR purposes. Medical Intelligency can provide the expertise that will enable applications to interoperate with existing health record coding systems or development of stand alone medical applications.

EHR mining across systems

Applications that require a deep analysis of electronic health records need to account for the wide variety of terminologies that are employed in differing systems codes and the complexities of synonyms or duplicate concepts.

Application Development

Most health apps or systems require clinical codes that provide lists of terms such as symptoms, conditions and treatments. These terms and codes ensure compatibility with other medical systems and enable core functions to perform reliably.

Target code set generation

At Medical Intelligency we can produce and maintain clinical code data files, to your specification. These can be employed in applications for web or smartphone/tablet platforms or as search terms for clinical trials.

Broad Spectrum of Applications

Developing applications that create or interact with patient records on any platform it is essential to provide meaningful and compatible medical terms and codes in lists for all aspects from symptoms to outcomes. This ensures applications are:

  • Interoperable
  • Comprehensive
  • Accurate
  • Reproducible
  • Reliable

Our medical term lists cover:

  • Symptoms
  • Diagnoses
  • Medicines
  • Tests
  • Procedures
  • Scales (e.g. depression)

We can also supply knowledge linkage that enable functionality such as;

  • Interaction checking
  • Contraindications
  • Side-effects

We can also advise on implementation of:

  • data models
  • interoperability with healthcare systems
  • workflow optimisation
  • pathway development
  • adverse event reporting
  • user interfaces

About Medical Intelligency

Medical Intelligency was set up in 2015 to address a number of important issues in the burgeoning electronic health record market. Building on the expertise of Dr Roger Weeks, a global leader in clinical coding, Medical Intelligency provides to services to the life science, healthcare and app development communities.

Dr Roger Weeks - Founder and Thesaurus Architect

Roger Weeks trained in Charing Cross Hospital between 1958-1964. After a spell abroad – two years in Laos – and 2 years teaching Anatomy in Kings College London he settled in General Practice in Surbiton in 1971. In 1981 he computerised his practice and in 1986 joined forces with James Read to write and produce version 2 of the Read codes working particularly on Drug and Appliance coding, OPCS4 conversion to Read and Pathology coding. This collaboration led to a short period working for the NHS Centre for Coding and Classification (later NHS Information Authority, National Programme for IT, Connecting for Health).

In 1992 he returned to General Practice – now in East Sheen, London and set up SafeScript with Colin Duncton to produce SafeScript’s World Standard Drug Database, using unique Thesaurus Technology. He was a founder member Doctors' Independent Network (DIN) in 1991, and was DIN Chairman. Interests in General Practice are the Electronic Health Record, Deprivation, Mental Health and Addiction and in IT coding, interoperability of systems and development of the Thesaurus of Medical Terms.
